Get fresh angles, techniques and new inspiration for material, develop your performing, explore longer club sets and festival shows and develop your own particular interest: for example, topical, musical, character comedy or impressions.
This inspiring course will stretch your writing and performance, equipping you with new tools, new material and enhanced performance and we'll look at putting together 10 mins and 20 mins sets, and we can discuss festival shows from the huge number of smaller festivals to the Edinurgh Fringe, looking at group shows, package shows and solo shows. Whether you've done a course with me, done another course, or just started gigging on your own initiative you're very welcome to join the course.
We will look at:
* writing and constructing longer sets
* developing your look, style and identity as an act
* writing topical material
* telling stories
* becoming more comfortable with act-outs and physicality
* moving onto festival shows from compilation shows, to two/three handers to solo shows
* developing themes, premises and concepts for festival shows alongside marketing and producing shows
* and any other areas participants wish to cover - for example musical or character comedy, or impressions.
I have a long track record of working on festival and touring shows, including shows at Assembly/ Pleasance/ Gilded Balloon/ Underbelly at Edinburgh and Soho Theatre in London, and I work with all kinds of comics from straight stand-ups to musical acts to impressionists to character comedy, and I bring all this experinence to bear on the course to develop your own work whether for festivals or club sets.
Perform brand new material and try out new performance skills in a lively showcase gig on the 10th night, also in Soho! The gig takes place in the screening room at the Karma Sanctum Hotel on Warwick Street, around the corner from the weekly sessions. Here's an image of the room, plus there will be a stage and microphone on the night. It'll be a buzzing, centrally located event in a classy space.
