Live and interactive comedy coaching with me from wherever you are.

  • Zoom coaching is wonderful! You can easily connect with me from wherever you are (and I can sit at my desk - see above! - and talk to people from around the UK, Europe and the world).

  • I am supportive, insightful and give you practical coaching that makes an immediate difference.

  • My clients leave uplifted and motivated - and that makes me feel good too, so I love doing it.

After every session you receive a video or audio of the session and you get detailed notes. Generated by AI but then I tidy them up and add bits where needed. As an example, here is a heavily redacted example (for confidentiality of the comic) of the first page of the kind of notes you can expect from a stand-up session. (See below for example notes from a scriptwriting session).

Let's take the three different areas in turn. Stand-up, Script and Speaking.

Read on for more info and also taster videos of sessions in action.

Zoom Stand-up Comedy Coaching

A still from a Zoom stand-up session where I am talking about, you guessed it, attitude.

"Chris Head can help you diagnose your persona and comedy style, then help you amplify it in your voice. By being clear with my persona, I've gotten opportunities because people can get on board with what I'm doing. Chris can also help you structure your standup hour so that it has maximum storytelling impact. I can't prove it, but I swear he has a magic wand that makes jokes fly out of my mouth when we speak." Lauren LoGiudice

In sessions on Zoom ranging from 30 mins to an hour I can work with you on your stand-up, whatever level you are at. Typically you will submit a video or script in advance and we will discuss. Or you can talk over ideas and develop material from scratch. Personal, inspring and practical.

Beginners: Get started with stand-up and develop material on Zoom. This is the session for you if you haven’t done stand-up yet, you have an open-spot booked, or intend to do one, or would simply like to explore how to get started. Book

Improvers: This is the session for you if you are doing stand-up. You might have a a script to work on and/ or a video of a gig, or simply some ideas to discuss. If you send a video, we will watch key sections and discuss what’s working and where you can improve your delivery, performance and stage craft.  I can also help you develop your persona. Book

In terms of material, you can either send me some script or notes in advance or talk me through it in the session. It might be a story or a routine that you are trying to figure out. Or a bit that's stopped working. Or some jokes you want to punch up. Whatever it is, you'll leave with lots of new ideas. I will go over your material, showing you where you can improve it, find new angles, and I'll share new tools for you to work with.

Here is a video taster of a session in action. I have hidden the identity of the comic. As you will hear, she has come with a specific problem with her performance and persona and in the video you will hear me diagnose the issue and find a way forward. This is an edited two minutes out of an hour! We went on to explore her material and writing in depth and how her material and delivery can best underpin the persona we discussed.

Following the session you will receive a video or audio recording and follow up notes. Here again is the heavily redacted example (from a different comic's session from the above video) of the first page of the kind of notes you can expect from a stand-up session.

Zoom Comedy Script Coaching

In this still from a Zoom script session, I have covered the script but this shows how we look at it together as I give notes and we discuss. As well as highlighting issues, I also acknowledge what's working as you can see!

"Not only did Chris help me fix my script’s structure, but he also helped me hone my characters and see where to make cuts. Working with Chris got me out of a rut and helped me progress to the next level with my producer." Jared Hamilton

My approach is very much like the classes in that I'll read and prepare my notes, then we'll go over the script on the screen and we'll discuss my points. So, instead of written script notes, I discuss the script with you the writer. In conversation we will come up with great ideas and solutions to issues between us. Then you'll receive a video of the session and detailed notes. People find it really helpful. Book

Here is a video taster of this in action. The challenge with compiling this taster video was to pick things I said that didn't give away the identity of the writer or any of their ideas! So it's only snippets but gives a flavour of how the sessions work.

Also I have chosen a follow up session - where we reflect on his response to my previous notes. You can therefore get a sense of some of the things I'd said previously as well as a few of my further thoughts for the next draft. This is an edited 90 seconds from an hour long session but gives you a feel for it. His script was on screen as we reviewed it, but I've here covered it over for confidentiality.

Following the session you will receive a video or audio recording and follow up notes. Here is a heavily redacted example (from a different writer's session from the above video) of the first page of the kind of notes you can expect from a script session.

Zoom Speaking Coaching

"Chris Head taught my that the story comes first, how to involve the audience, and where to put the jokes. If you want to give talks that entertain as they inform, he’s an extraordinary guide!" Kieran Setiya

I help speakers in all sorts of contexts hone their message and their delivery, including business presentations, science talks, book tours and TEDx talks. You can send me script/video in advance and I'll give you lots of input on making the content, delivery and narrative more effective. Book

As a sample video, here is an excerpt from an initial 15 minutes chat with a speaker (who does talks for education professionals.) To hide her identity I have removed the video and edited it to my remarks only.
